Do I have to be in good shape before I start?No, you will get into shape as you train. We have a series of exercises that you will learn as you progress through the ranking system which will enable you to perform the self defense techniques.

I am 31 years old, am I too old to start martial arts?"No, you are not too old to begin martial arts training. Karate training regularly has students start from when they're young through their 50's and older. Shukokai Karate is a practical and effective martial art that just requires a normal amount of flexibility.

I am very busy with my work schedule, how much time do I need to devote to karate classes?"We would recommend 1 or 2 classes every week with home practice to ensure that you start seeing results from martial arts journey. Remember, the quality of practice is really important!

How long does it take to get a black belt?In Shukokai Karate, it takes approximately 3 years to reach student black belt, however sometimes it can take shorter or longer. It all depends on the student's willingness to learn and their dedication to practice.

What sort of things should I consider when choosing a school?When considering a Karate school, you want to make sure that the instructors are appropriately trained and that they practice what they preach. It's also important that school is affiliated with some governing body, like how Samurai Karate is affiliated with the Samurai International dojo from Japan. This ensures that you are not only learning proper traditional character, but the mindset and character that comes with it.
